I'm sorry blog, I left you for another lover. Anyway, the sun is shining its time to start writing.
I'm just trying to get my head around this whole recession thing.
Its particularly interesting from an industry point of view. Unlike some other sectors, I saw loads of blood on the streets quite early in my career when the whole dot.com thing went tits up, and so far I have not see quite the same levels matched......but equally, its always a lagging indicator - the markets went in 2000, but it was early 2001 before the pain really bit in.
I do think that this whole recession will focus the mind, people simply won't be able to move for cash in the same way as they did before, which is going to force people to take a more holistic view of what they do with their nine to five (or seven till nine) - does it stimulate you, can you see the difference you make, do you like the people you work with, is thinking about how to take the campaign to the next level the thing that dominates your thoughts as you cycle to work.
I firmly believe that money has become a distraction above all others to many people, not helped by the soaring housing boom that has made very well paid people feel downright poor because they can only afford a pokey flat on their seemingly ample salary. If we could have a correction that gets people to think about 'hopes and dreams' first, then I'm certain that riches - both in terms of quality work and material - will most certainly follow.
