Hmmm, interesting thinking about what is the right thing for the Party at the moment. My anger over the lose of Glasgow East has somewhat subsided and I guess now is the time for a bit of quiet reflection. Its interesting looking at the pros and cons of the whole Broon situation. I can't help feeling though that public resentment of the PM is only going to get worse as time goes on but equally I realise that a leadership challenge would necessitate a fairly prompt election...which, based on the present ratings Labour will lose. So it merits the question of who, of any substance, would want to pick up the chalice. Of all the possible contenders, I think Alan Johnson is the only one that would stand as a real contrast to Dave...and its contrast we require but all of his previous statements have been pretty clear in his reluctance for the job.
So I'm going to take a holiday from the issue and hit the Rye (I can't afford the beach this year). But I am going to give one piece of advice to Gordon. Go away on holiday, abroad, get out of the public eye, away from the media storm and give yourself some real time to think. The government looks tired because you are tired and your endless control freakary is not helping you, the party or the country. We can and will survive when you are gone, so don't confuse weakness with effective man management.
Right I'm off to explore a boozer in Forest Hill.
