...as an old boss of mine used to say to us if there had been a screw up somewhere along the line. But.....in THIS instance I'm not sure thats going to make anyone feel better.
I'm not going to bang on about it here as I think the select committee findings will cast a suitable judgment on Colin Matthews' management skills but I do think this shows a dangerous tendency within large organisations for management to surround themselves with a series of 'Yes' men. I've seen it in places that I've worked to a lesser extent and it looks as though we are seeing it in Cabinet to a greater extent but it still amazes me that you have clearly very intelligent people, elevated to very senior positions who are not bright enough to realise that they need to listen to the people around them. Even worse is the fact that there are clearly enough limp necked senior managers who aren't brave enough to tell their bosses something that they don't want to hear.
Doesn't bode well for the economy if we have this sort of business culture ingrained does it...
